Which did you like better: The Watchtower or Awake? ...and why?
by JimmyPage ini always liked the awake better because it wasn't as preachy.
less analyzing of what minute thing some guy in a robe and sandals did thousands of years ago and its application for our day.
the awake seemed more secular and less dogmatic.

concerned jw, if mistakes will happen, i was wondering what mistakes you feel the jw organization is currently making?

The Watchtower Society's changing idea of what truth is reminds me of one of Groucho Marx's one-liners.
"These are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others."

THE GLADIATOR
I was thrashed by my parents. At home, in the Kingdom hall and even in the field ministry. One householder who observed this display of violence told my father that he didn't want to hear a single world of anything he had to say. My mother was the worse by far.
It didn't do me any harm. I grew up into a fine young gladiator, to the glory of Caesar.

A simple way to tell God probably doesn't exist
by poor places inwhen's the last time you prayed to god?
did he respond?
i prayed to him for years and years and received no response.

The Christians I have spoken with on this forum take most of their inspiration from the new testament. The Old part of the bible is considered to be a collection of guesswork by men.
You seem to see it other way around, which confuses me even more.

'No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.'
1 John 4:12 NLTThe problem with using the bible as an authority, is that it covers all bases and ends up being contradictory. Which is why many Christians have abandoned the bible and set up a hot wire to Jesus.
So which scripture is telling the truth?

Should conscientious objectors to gay marriage be allowed?
by rebel8 inprevious, related thread: ny catholic church on new gay marriage law.
gay marriage is finally legal in my state.
let the next wave of ignorance begin!.

WTWizard You make some very reasonable points that I find myself agreeing with.
In Britain the enforcement of pro-gay attitude has turned into a witch-hunt. Someone even mentioning in public that they disapprove of homosexuality can result in arrest. In the workplace it usually leads to redundancy. Tolerance is needed on all side if we are to have a fair and workable society.
Personally, people can marry monkeys for all I care but then rules in Rome are rather more flexible.

We had an incident in the UK where a Christian woman working for an adoption agency refused to vote in favour of allowing gay males to adopt a child. She lost her job.
People do have a right to act in line with their conscience but at work they are subject to the rules of the pay master, who has to apply the current laws of the land. (Or mistress - wouldn’t want to be accused of sexism)
The days when western countries used the bible as their law book are long gone – thankgod!

Why Some Cannot "See" that the Bible is NOT the Word of God
by AGuest into the household of god, israel, and those who go with... may you all have peace.
some of you may have recently observed some discussions regarding what... or rather, who... the word of god is, truly.
in those and other threads, some participants weren't able to grasp the difference between discussion vs. contention... and defending their own faith... and love of god and christ... vs. ramming their [mis]assumptions as to the "vengeance of god"... down others' throats.

Ah yes indeed! You should face each other in the arena and settle your dispute once and for all.

Peace and may your gods go with you and Caesar be merciful

The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth - Matt 5:5 anyone?
by punkofnice inon another thread concernedjw used an interesting quote from jesus at matt 5:5 'the meek shall inherit the earth.
' fair comment i'd say.
but jesus didn't say 'paradise' earth.. now i know some of you don't believe in the bible (which i respect), and i'm not after a debate.. what i'm interested to hear is how you would refyte that jesus was not talking about a jw 'paradise earth'.

Damn it to hell and back. It would appear that it's better to be righteous than wicked, which counts me out.
Shame Godrulz couldn't conquer this board but at least he will inherit the earth. He will probably call paradise - Godzone.

He never responded. At times, all I would ask for is a sign. There were no signs.
There is a clue here somewhere.
